Authentic Wild Beauty in Every Strand
Our 100% tussah silk yarn captures the essence of nature with its delicately rustic texture and subtle sheen. Sourced from wild silk moths, this fiber is stronger and has a slightly drier feel compared to mulberry silk, offering a fluid drape and a sophisticated finish.
Features:
-
Natural and sustainable fiber – Tussah silk comes from caterpillars that feed naturally in the wild, resulting in a golden or ivory base color and a textured character full of personality.
-
Lightweight and breathable – Perfect for transitional garments, its thermoregulating properties keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.
-
Texture with character – A balance between softness and structure, ideal for shawls, airy garments, and lacework details.
-
Hand-dyed – Each skein displays unique nuances thanks to the special way this fiber absorbs color.

NOTE: THIS SILK GROWS SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER BLOCKING AND WORKS BEST WITH LOOSER GAUGE (LARGER NEEDLES)
Tussah silk has a less uniform and more porous structure than Mulberry silk (the most common and fine type). These irregularities allow it to absorb more water, and as it dries, the fibers relax, which can increase its length and reduce its density, giving it a more “expanded” appearance.
Its natural color ranges from beige to golden, a hue derived from the tannins present in the oak and chestnut leaves consumed by the larvae. Structurally, it is stronger than mulberry silk but also has a drier feel to the touch. Although it can be dyed, its composition causes it to absorb color less evenly, which can create interesting nuances in the resulting unique yarns.
I strongly recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows when knitting with this silk, especially for larger projects like t-shirts, tops, or sweaters, to ensure a more even distribution of color.
